The Healthcare Management Composite Heritage
Celebrating Our 30 Year Anniversary in 2006

Victoria Major MA, RD, began dietary consultation in 1967, when federal regulations first required nursing homes to have a dietitian supervise food services. By 1969 Victoria personally managed 16 accounts. When the American Dietetic Association began registering dietitians in 1971, Victoria was one of the first in California.

In 1974, Victoria met Jane Harmer MA, RD, also a consultant dietitian. After participating in some joint dietitian projects, they decided to form a partnership in 1976. They started with 18 clients and lots of enthusiasm. The company was called The H.M. Composite. The "H" was for Harmer, the "M" for Major, and "Composite" meant "two heads are better than one."

Jane and Victoria worked diligently to develop menus and other dietary management materials. As leaders in a new field, they were often asked to speak at meetings and conventions. In 1979, Jane Harmer took a position with SYSCO. Victoria continued with the growing and challenging business. The company incorporated in October 1985 and it was renamed Healthcare Management Composite, Inc., which was more appropriate, yet did not change a well respected and recognized name. Most clients still refer to the company simply as "H.M. Composite" or "HMC." During the early 1980s, Lee Tincher, MS, RD joined Healthcare Management Composite as Vice President of Operations.

In July of 1987, Jane Harmer re-joined Healthcare Management Composite as Vice President. Jane was responsible for marketing and sales for the company. She was also a resource dietitian focusing on purchasing and vendor-facility relations until her retirement in 2000.

Healthcare Management Composite is comprised of several separate yet related services. The first is the Dietary Management Materials Service, which includes seasonal therapeutic menus, ordering guides, recipes, and inservice materials. This product line is constantly updated and expanded. Secondly, Healthcare Management Composite employs registered dietitians(RDs) to provide consultation to long- and short-term care facilities. Thirdly, we have the ability to assist facilities in highly specialized areas such as departmental management, kitchen design, clinical challenges, and dietary management software.

Healthcare Management Composite is another Silicon Valley business that began on the dining room table. It is now a successful and thriving national company serving hundreds of facilities, employing a staff of over 90 consultant dietitians, and serving facilities from Eureka to San Diego. Menus and dietary materials serve more than 35,000 residents across the United States every day.

In 2003, Lee Tincher, MS, RD, with over 30 years of long-term care dietetic experience, assumed the role of President of Healthcare Management Composite. The office is now located in Sacramento, California and is available for professional Registered Dietitian consultation throughout California. In March 2006, Healthcare Management Composite celebrated 30 years of service to seniors in healthcare facilities and retirement homes by honoring our founders with an anniversary dinner.

Healthcare Management Composite is embracing the use of technology to assist healthcare facilities to provide state of the art food services while containing costs. Interactive Web-based manuals and menu-integrated software are propelling HMC to national recognition as an innovator of quality services.
